About Vitaliq

We built the food coach
we couldn't find.

Every existing health app either ignored Indian food entirely or treated it as an afterthought. Biryani was approximated as "rice." Dahi was missing. Medication interactions for common Indian prescriptions were absent.

The problem we kept running into

India has 101 million diabetics. Another 220 million with hypertension. A population that eats largely home-cooked Indian food, uses Indian medications, and speaks in any of dozens of regional languages.

The health apps they were using — MyFitnessPal, HealthifyMe, Cronometer — were built for Western diets, Western medications, and English speakers. Nutritional profiles for dal, sambar, and idli were either absent or wildly inaccurate. Medication interaction databases covered Metformin but missed common Indian brand names. The "AI coach" spoke English or — at best — formal Hindi that felt nothing like how people actually talk.

So we built Vitaliq from scratch with one constraint: every decision is made as if the user is a diabetic grandmother in Hyderabad scanning Maggi for her grandchildren, or a software engineer in Bengaluru managing his father's hypertension remotely.

We are a small team building in public. Every grade we publish, every feature we ship, every privacy decision we make is in service of that user. We don't have a marketing budget or a growth team. We have a product that works, and users who tell their families about it.

Four principles we won't compromise.

01

Science, not sponsorship

Food grades are determined by nutritional composition and processing level. A brand cannot pay to improve their grade. The moment a grade is influenced by money, the product is worthless. We would rather shut down than do that.

02

Indian food, built for India

Biryani is not "rice with spices." Dahi is not "yogurt." Upma has a specific GI profile that matters for diabetics. We built a database of 355+ Indian dishes with region-specific nutrition values from ICMR-NIN — not extrapolated from Western equivalents.

03

Privacy is a feature, not a checkbox

Your health data is the most sensitive data you own. We built DPDP Act 2023 compliance from day one, not retrofitted. HR dashboards use k≥10 algorithmic anonymisation — not a policy promise. Individual data is technically inaccessible to HR, not just contractually protected.

04

Honest incentives, always

Scanning grades will always be free — that is our only hard promise. We earn through aligned incentives: affiliate links on alternatives you would buy anyway, insurance leads that save you money, referral fees when you book lab tests. Your food grades will never change due to brand payments.

Grades are determined by science. Permanently.

Vitaliq has a commercial partnerships programme (FMCG spotlight). Grade A and Grade B products may apply to be highlighted in the "Better Alternatives" section. PARTNER-badged products are always disclosed. A brand can pay to be visible. A brand cannot pay to improve their grade.

This pledge is written into our terms of service and is irrevocable — even under acquisition.
